God’s Vision for CHBC: 3 Piers, 3 Pillars, and 3 Purposes

Purpose 2: Exalt Christ

“CHBC is not a building people meet together in, but a people who gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord.” Is this just a quippy saying or something we sincerely believe. This is what we believe. The church exists to glorify God. To glorify God is to magnify the same thing He does.

God glorifies the Son. John 17:1 says, “Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, ‘Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You,’.” In order for us to worship God properly we must live all of life in exaltation of Jesus Christ. Through a personal pursuit of practical holiness, we honor what Christ has died for. Through corporate worship centered on the person and work of Christ, we encourage others to remain Christ focused. CHBC exists to exalt Christ.

God’s Vision for CHBC: 3 Piers, 3 Pillars, and 3 Purposes

Purpose 1: Equip the Believer

Should the church be attempting to cater to the wants and needs of its constituency? Finding out what the desires of the community are and trying to develop ministries to meet those needs, or influence change for a better society? Many people think this is exactly why the church exists.

At CHBC we believe the church exists to Equip Believers, Exalt Christ, and Extend the Gospel for Glory of God. These are not steps in a process, but cyclical results of each of the other purposes. As the church equips believers in the knowledge of God, Christ, and the Gospel, the church will respond in a truer worship and a more passionate extension of the gospel. As people come to faith in Christ, they will naturally respond in worship of the God who saved them, and they will hunger and thirst for more knowledge and greater obedience of God.

Equipping Believers must be an intentional purpose for a New Testament Church. We are attempting to equip believers in the essential beliefs of the Bible, in essential virtues of the Christian life, and in essential practices for growth in Godliness. What a believer should know, be, and do. This guides our selection of teaching, sermons, and ministries. Equip believers and they will do the work of ministry to one another, and the world.

Scripture of the Month - August
Titus 2:12, “instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,”

During 2023 CHBC will be saying aloud verses from the book of Titus 2. CHBC quotes Scripture aloud during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. The goal of 2023 is for you to be able to quote the entire second chapter of the Epistle to Titus. Pick up your Scripture Memory card packs at the Resource Center outside the middle doors of the Worship Center.
