CHBC Connect for December 16, 2022

The Mission of CHBC – 3 Piers, 3 Pillars, and 3 Purposes
CHBC exists for the glory of God to accomplish three purposes: To equip believers to know God’s Word, to exalt Christ privately and publicly, and to extend the gospel to their neighbors and the nations. The three piers we discuss are: The Centrality of the Scriptures, the Lordship of Christ, and the Glory of God. When you think about the Lordship of Christ as foundational to the existence of the church, you should consider this statement from the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, “Each congregation operates under the Lordship of Christ through democratic processes. In such a congregation each member is responsible and accountable to Christ as Lord” (BF&M 2000).

Members’ Meeting – December 18 at 6 PM
The Annual Members’ Meeting for budget consideration will occur on Sunday evening (not Sunday morning as stated in the 2023 Proposed Budget Cover Letter). This meeting will occur following the Power for Kids Christmas Musical. The agenda for this meeting has been set as follows:

  • Recommendation to adopt the Proposed 2023 Budget
  • Recommendations to elect CHBC Officers, Committees, and Teams
  • Recommendation by Personnel Committee for the replacement of our Director for Preschool and Children’s Mininstries.

CHBC Resource Center – ESV Study Bible

The most essential tool for a person who wants to know God is his or her Bible. We want to encourage you to have a reliable and readable translation, and we want to encourage you to have a Study Bible that will explain historical backgrounds, deal with issues of authorship, discuss the purpose of the writing, and give you verse by verse explanation. Through a generous donation of an adult SS class the ESV Study Bible has been made available to you at no cost. These usually retail for over $100. If you can purchase one of these Bibles for any amount, then place your payment in the box located next to the Bibles. If you cannot purchase this at this time, but will use this, or need to give this to someone else, please do not hesitate. This is the beginning of what CHBC hopes will become a first-class Biblical Resource Center, providing the best in Biblical resources to you. Support that vision and your Biblical knowledge by taking one of these ESV study Bibles and paying what you are able.

Pray for the Search Committee - Associate Pastor for Worship Ministries
The search committee updated the church the this past Sunday. In this update it was shared that the committee had completed interviewing a candidate. They are making plans for this candidate to come to CHBC in View of a Call on Sunday, January 15. As the details are confirmed, the church will receive more information about that weekend, as well as more information about the candidate.

Celebrate Christmas with CHBC

  • 24 – 5 PM – Christmas Eve Candlelight Service
  • 25 – 10:15 AM – Family Christmas Worship

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering/World Missions Offering
Jesus Christ’s birth is the reason the church celebrates Christmas. He is the greatest gift because it is through Him alone that sinners are saved. This news needs to reach the end of the earth. Men and women of God have felt the call to full-time missionary service since the sending of the first disciples. When you give to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, or to World Missions Offering, you are putting dollar directly in the hands of missionaries who serve through the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Some of the most dedicated followers of Christ serve our mission agency. Support their work by giving beyond your tithe to Lottie Moon or the World Missions Offering this month.

Scripture of the Month - December
John 1:1-3, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.” Each week CHBC says aloud a passage of Scripture during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. Receive a text to your phone with this verse set to music by texting the word “CHBCVERSE” to the number (302) 207-SONG (7664).

Discipleship Resources for December 15, 2022

As 2022 comes to an end we want to share with you one more time a few resources to encourage your spiritual growth. CHBC understands that God established the church to equip its believers with the knowledge of the truth. We are to equip you to do the work of ministry. That is to continue the work of Christ as grace and truth unto a world who desperately needs to hear the gospel. May we continue the work of Christ’s first advent, while we wait on the second advent. To His Glory. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from CHBC!
