The Mission of CHBC – Equip Believers

In Acts 2 it tells us that the early believers were, “devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching…” (Acts 2:42). The apostles taught what they had learned from Jesus by hearing His words and watching His life. Paul told Timothy to, “pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching:” (1 Tim. 4:16). Equipping and being equipped is not just about knowledge. As a church we are charged to make disciples, not scholars. It is the purpose of CHBC to equip believers to be disciples of Jesus. Our goal is to help people not only know truth, but to be holy, and do righteousness. It is about what we know, who we will be, and how we will live.

Men’s and Women’s Bible Studies

Discipleship can extend for you beyond the Sunday School. The men and women of our church, including those who are teenagers, are encouraged to check out the men’s and women’s ministry opportunities at CHBC. Check out the website for more information about Men’s Bible Studies and Women’s Bible Studies.

Oklahoma Baptist Youth Choir – September 18 at 6 PM

On Sunday evening September 18 the Oklahoma Baptist Youth Choir will be in concert at CHBC. We are honored to have three of our young people singing in this wonderful choir that travels across the state of Oklahoma. Please be present to support these young people and be blessed by quality Christian music.

Capitol Hill on Bison Hill – Oct. 3

From 6-8 PM CHBC will be ministering to students at OBU. We began this ministry opportunity in the Spring of 2021 when OBU and other colleges skipped their Spring Breaks in order to protect their campuses during the COVID-19 pandemic. OBU continues to ask us back on campus just to bless their students. We will be present serving iced coffees and home baked treats from you. How can you serve? Make a dozen or more homemade snacks (no peanut butter, individually packaged) and bring them to the church by noon on October 3. Come to OBU with us and serve coffee, snacks, and visit with college students. We have seen several students make CHBC a home church, and we know of at least one student who accepted Christ as a result of his relationship with CHBC.

Truth at Home

You may have noticed the large display being built in the Main Hall at the north entrance of our building as you come to the Children and Student wing of the education building. This display is our Truth at Home resource center. CHBC wants to provide families with material to deal with the challenging conversations and changing times of raising children, launching children, and experiencing other life-changing events. These resources are meant to be a starting point to open the door to conversations with pastors, biblical counselors, or others. The resource center is still under construction but will soon be fully functioning and available. Please stop by frequently as the material will be updated regularly.

Greet and Treat & Love Your Neighbor – October 31

CHBC each year encourages you to use the night that our neighborhoods fill up with Trick or Treaters to engage our neighbors with the love of Jesus. If you have young children take them through our neighborhood that night letting them hand out our Greet and Treat Bags. If your children have grown, make your home a Love Your Neighbor Station. Some people set up games, serve popcorn, serve hot chocolate, or make a fire pit, inviting Trick or Treaters and their families to stop for a moment, rest, and visit as they make their way around the neighborhood. It is a good way to know your neighbors and give you an opportunity to put a treat in their bag and give them an invitation to join with CHBC for a Sunday of Worship.

Scripture of the Month

Matthew 4:19-20, “And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.” Each week CHBC says aloud a passage of Scripture during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. Receive a text to your phone with this verse set to music by texting the word “CHBCVERSE” to the number (302) 207-SONG (7664).

Prayer

Pray this Scripture for your brothers and sisters in Christ at CHBC. Pray we will know God’s love, and by that be confirmed of our abiding in God.

1 John 4:16

“We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”

The Mission of CHBC – The Centrality of the Scriptures

The Bible, or God’s Holy Scripture, is His revelation to us. It is from the Bible that we learn of God, who He is, and what is His will for all of humanity. God’s Word is inspired, or God-breathed. It is not just about God; it is from God. This is not man’s testimony about the importance of the Bible. This is God’s testimony from the Bible about the Bible. This is why we say, the Scriptures must be central to all that it means to be the church.

Labor Day Church Family Picnic – September 4 at 5 PM

One of the annual traditions for fellowship at CHBC is the Labor Day Picnic. This fellowship happens on the south lawn of the church. We have access to volleyball, soccer fields, a baseball field, and lots of space to sit and talk. There is usually a cornhole tournament, disc golf, and a variety of lawn games being played. Please join us for a great night of church family fellowship. The church provides hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks. You can bring a side dish, topping, or dessert. Please also bring your favorite lawn chair and yard game.

Prayer

This is not a promise to be claimed, but a general principle for which we should aim. Encourage parents as they have the challenging task of training their children to follow the Lord. Pray with those parents for fruit in the lives of those children.

Proverbs 22:6

“Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
