The Mission of CHBC – The Glory of God

It is a Biblical truth that God is glorious, and because He is God, He alone deserves all glory. It is also true that He acts in ways that show His glory. The establishment of the church is a glorious act of God. In other words, the church exists in order to reflect glory back to Him, and to show the world that He is glorious in all His dealings. One of the foundations upon which CHBC rests is this: We exist for the glory of God. That should inform our motive, and guard our actions.

Ekklesia in the Park – Little River Park at 5 PM

CHBC will meet at the south end of Little River Park next to the splash pad. We will have a pavilion reserved for us to have a time to sing, have a devotion, and share a hot dog with those who are at the park to enjoy their families. This is a way for us to be the church in the community. Please join us for a time of fellowship among our community.

Truth at Home

You may have noticed the large display being built in the Main Hall at the north entrance of our building as you come to the Children and Student wing of the education building. This display is our Truth at Home resource center. CHBC wants to provide families with material to deal with the challenging conversations and changing times of raising children, launching children, and experiencing other life-changing events. These resources are meant to be a starting point to open the door to conversations with pastors, biblical counselors, or others. The resource center is still under construction but will soon be fully functioning and available. Please stop by frequently as the material will be updated regularly.

Other Upcoming Activities

August 28 – Little River Park Cookout & Outreach (5-7 PM)

September 4 – Labor Day Picnic (5 PM)

Scripture of the Month

Hebrews 4:16, “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Each week CHBC says aloud a passage of Scripture during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. Receive a text to your phone with this verse set to music by texting the word “CHBCVERSE” to the number (302) 207-SONG (7664).

Prayer

Pray for one another to deepen their love for God’s word. You may be helping to protect them from stumbling headlong into sin.

Psalm 119:165

“Those who love Your law have great peace, and nothing causes them to stumble.”

The Mission of CHBC – 3 Piers

The purpose statement for CHBC is that Capitol Hill Baptist Church exists for the glory of God by Equipping Believers, Exalting Christ, and Extending the Gospel. We know that our purpose must be grounded on core convictions and founded on absolute truth. Our three-fold purpose is founded on the non-negotiables of the Glory of God, the Centrality of the Scriptures, and the Lordship of Christ. We call those our 3 Piers. Those three absolutes keep the purpose of what we do grounded in the reality of God, His divine nature, and His revealed Word. This not only informs our worship but infuses our worship with truth.

EXPLORE CHBC – August 21 @ 9 AM

Membership in the local church is not attendance without accountability, but commitment with responsibility. Membership matters, and we want to help all members of CHBC to find their way into meaningful community at CHBC. Our Explore CHBC course is designed to explain the importance of membership, introduce you to the history and vision of CHBC, and connect you to ways to love and be loved by the body of Christ at CHBC. Although this is the last week of our 3-week course, we will be offering our 3-week orientation beginning again on October 2.

Praise and Testimony Ekklesia (Evening Worship) – August 21 at 5 PM

This Sunday night we have a special worship gathering where will spend some time in praise and testimony. As we conclude our summer, we want to be grateful for God’s work in our midst and to give Him proper glory. Come and be encouraged by God’s work among His people at CHBC.

Members’ Meeting – August 21 at 6 PM

Following the evening Ekklesia this week CHBC will have its 2nd Quarter Members’ Meeting. A review of financials, and various other reports will be shared as we exercise our congregational function as a local church.

SNAC – August 21 at 6:30 PM

SNAC stands for Sunday Night After Church. This is a regular event of our Student Ministry. All 7th-12th graders and their families are encouraged to join together in a time of fellowship. The SNAC this Sunday night is hosted at the home of the Miller’s. If you need more information please contact your Sunday School Teacher, Pastor Jason, or the Millers.
