DISCIPLESHIP RESOURCES

What if the culture of CHBC was one in which every believer was being discipled, and making disciples through each relationship? In a way, that is already true, and in another way we need much work in this area. Every relationship you have is a God-given opportunity to be introducing people to Jesus, helping them follow Jesus, or being helped to follow Jesus by the other people around you. Think of those relationships that way, and do not wait for others to stimulate spiritual conversations. Be the first to speak up about your spiritual struggles, the things you are learning, or the questions you have been wrestling with. Use resources like these as a starting point for your own growth, and to start conversations about spiritual matters.

The Mission of CHBC – Multi-Cultural

The New Testament church was a testimony to unity in the midst of diversity. Jewish backgrounded people and Greco-Roman paganism backgrounded people were suddenly thrust together as a family under Jesus Christ. Women had the same opportunity of learning and serving as men. Children were to be brought and taught alongside their parents. The wealthy and the indebted were brothers and sisters in Christ. CHBC holds as a conviction to reflect unity in Jesus as more important than unity based on our cultural identities. Remember: The church is not a building people meet together in, but a people who gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord.

RedeemED – July 25

Wherever Christianity has thrived in the world the community benefits from increased literacy and education. God reveals Himself in a written Word, and a world of order, just waiting to be learned about and utilized for Kingdom good. Educators are critical in the formation of the next generation. The priests, prophets, Jesus, and the apostles were teachers. Moms and dads are teachers. Disciple-making is a teaching/learning activity. This is why we are investing in ministry to educators of all levels, in homeschool, public school, and private school settings. If you are an educator, please register to be a part of this years RedeemED conference. The details and registration are at this link: RedeemED.

120th Anniversary – August 7, 2022

The Missionary Baptist Church of Capitol Hill was constituted on the second Sunday of August in 1902. That church became known as Capitol Hill Baptist Church. We will mark our 120th Anniversary as an organized, local body of believers on August 7th. The day will include a regular morning schedule. Special displays will be in the hallways to be seen before Sunday School, before Worship, and following Worship. We will have some moments during the morning worship service to mark this special occasion. We will also be serving a catered lunch following the service. You can purchase a ticket for the lunch at a cost of $5 per person and $20 for a family maximum for you and children living in your home. You may purchase tickets in the Foyer or online.

Scripture of the Month

Romans 4:20-21, “yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.” Each week CHBC says aloud a passage of Scripture during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. Receive a text to your phone with this verse set to music by texting the word “CHBCVERSE” to the number (302) 207-SONG (7664).

Prayer

Pray for one another to choose the faithful way.

Psalm 119:30

“I have chosen the faithful way; I have placed Your ordinances before me.”
