CHBC Family and Friends,

Finding biblical resources that are reliably faithful to the Scriptures can be challenging. If you just hit a “Google” search on a topic or subject, can you trust the information you see? If you hear a preacher on the radio or a podcast, is this someone who uses sound biblical scholarship, and preaches the plain truth and meaning of the Bible, while also living that out in his own life and ministry? This is why we are providing these resources. These are websites that your pastors believe are useful to church members for daily living, and come from reliable sources. Blessings on your learning.

Worship at CHBC – A Reminder

CHBC understands we are founded on three foundational principles; we call these our piers. The first of these piers is the Lordship of Christ. Christ is the head of the church (Eph. 4:15). Therefore, we commit to not only worship Him as Lord, but to conduct ourselves individually and corporately according to His clear commands in the Word of God. The church is not a building people meet together in, but a people who gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord. As we gather, please remember:

  • Be aware of your own health as you prepare to come to Sunday School and worship
  • Worship with us online if you are experiencing the symptoms of COVID-19, or other transmissible illnesses
  • While you are present wash your hands, and do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth

Explore CHBC – February 6

This is our last session for the first quarter. We will offer another three-week session of Explore CHBC beginning on March 27. If you have been visiting CHBC, please consider joining us in March. Explore CHBC is the membership orientation class offered by Capitol Hill Baptist Church for guests to help introduce them to the history, vision, and mission of CHBC. The class lasts three weeks and meets at 9 AM in the church conference room. During the sessions you will learn about biblical church membership, why it is highly valued at CHBC, and what remaining steps there are to becoming a member.

ETC – Extended Teaching Care

One of the ministries that CHBC has proudly provided during morning worship is ETC (Extended Teaching Care). ETC is for children under fours years of age and is provided during the morning worship service. To fully staff ETC we need 72 volunteers. That allows each volunteer to serve in ETC 6 times per year (once every other month). We currently have 45 volunteers, which means they are serving almost twice as often as we desire. If you would be willing to serve in this vital ministry 6 times a year, would you please sign up through Cheryl Ross or Amy Cusack on Sunday morning in the foyer.

Family Dedication – Feb. 6, 2022

Each year we celebrate a Family Dedication Day as a church. This a way for CHBC to celebrate children as a blessing from God (Psalm 127). The purpose of Family Dedication is to allow parents to present their child(ren) before the church to commit to raise them according to God’s Word and in God’s church. The church is committing to teach the children and parents God’s Word, and to pray for these families to remain faithful.

Scripture of the Month

Each week CHBC says aloud a passage of Scripture during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. The Scripture we will say and memorize for the month of February is Numbers 23:19, “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent; has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” You can receive a text to your phone with this verse set to music by texting the word “CHBCVERSE” to the number (302) 207-SONG (7664).

A Moment in Church History

On February 3,1469, Johannes Gutenberg died. Guttenberg was the developer of movable type, which became a powerful factor in the spread of the Protestant Reformation. Learn more about what happened on this date in church history by following this link: Today in Church History.

Prayer

Psalm 59:16
