God’s Vision for CHBC: 3 Piers, 3 Pillars, and 3 Purposes

3 Pillars

Over the last two newsletters Pastor Mark has reminded us of the first two of the Three Pillars of the vision for CHBC. Our church is committed to being Biblically-Modeled, Mission-Minded, and Multi-Cultural. The culture of creation is diverse by God’s design. Culture in its most basic definition is what God’s people do with what God has made. It comes from the word “cultivate” which we find in Genesis 1. We have a cultural mandate from God. While we know the culture is fallen, it is also a gift from God. The diversity of human beings is a gift. We should pursue diversity among the church body. We should embrace and enjoy being in a church made up of people with different ethnic, social, economic, and educational backgrounds, among other diversity that exists among us. We learn more about the character and work of God as we experience the diversity of His creation in other people.

God’s Vision for CHBC: 3 Piers, 3 Pillars, and 3 Purposes

3 Pillars

Last week’s newsletter, Pastor Mark reminded us of the First Pillar of CHBC’s vision statement: Biblically-Modeled. Today, his focus is on what it means that CHBC is committed to be Mission-Minded. The word “mission” is related in the Greek and Latin to the word “apostle.” It has to do with being “sent.” Jesus was sent by God, and Jesus sent out the twelve. He subsequently sent out all believers. Our mission is our “sent-ness.” And we are sent to, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20). There are lots of good things Christian individuals can and should do. What corporately as an organized body of Christ must we be about if we are to faithfully accomplish God’s purposes for us in the world? What is the mission must we keep our collective mind on? Exactly what Jesus said in Matthew 28:19-20.
