Loving Those Affected by Hurricane Laura
If you would like to support disaster relief efforts in Louisiana you can give to the Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief Team, and read more about their efforts here: SBC Disaster Relief. Or you can give to John Boaz and Lord Send Me Ministries here: Lord Send Me Ministries. Lord Send Me Ministries is also looking for volunteers to come help prepare and pass out food. John and LSMM helped with the Back to School Bash for many years, as well as came to OKC in 2013 to do tornado disaster relief. They have been a good partner to CHBC and will be doing disaster relief ministry in Louisiana.

Sunday School
CHBC is currently Re-Grouping into Sunday School. Each class begins at 9 AM. You can read the Re-Grouping Plan for Sunday School here: CHBC Sunday School Re-Grouping. There are some changes to where groups meet, so please read the plan carefully. We will continue to send you links to use on your own at your home as well. You can find those below:

CHBC Re-Gathering – September 20, 2020
The church is not a building people meet together in, but a people who gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord.

The people of God known as Capitol Hill Baptist Church exist to Glorify God by Extending the Gospel. That is one of the key statements in our vision as a church. We want others to know who Christ is, that He loves them, and that they too could repent of their sins as we have, and trust in Him for salvation. Let us make His name known in our neighborhoods, as well as the nations. We gather to worship Him, and we scatter to tell others about Him.

If you gather with us in person know that we are physically distancing and sanitizing. You are more than welcome to wear a face covering in order to protect others. Please RSVP, especially if you will be using ETC (Extended Teaching Care for 3 years and younger). The RSVP helps us be prepared for overflow seating, for children in ETC, and for seating in the Worship Center. Thank you for understanding the need to physically distance and to RSVP. Click the link to go the CHBC Re-Gathering RSVP page on the website: CHBC Re-Gathering RSVP.  If you forget to RSVP or you meet someone you want to invite to worship with us, please still attend and do not worry about telling them how to RSVP. We will accommodate everyone either in the main Worship Center or in our overflow rooms.

Ekklesia – September 20, at 5 PM – A Night in the Park
This Sunday evening CHBC is going to take our evening gathering to a local park. We will sing, have a devotion, and then fellowship and play. We hope there will be others present who we can meet and invite to our church. We will be meeting at Little River Park on the South end. Enter off of SE 19th Street, going North on Eagle Drive. Turn back to the East on 10th Street and you will drive up to the park. Bring your family and friends to join us for a night to be among our neighbors as we worship and fellowship.

Love Your Neighbor
September 27, 2020 is our next Love Your Neighbor outreach. If you would like to use your home to reach out to your neighborhood please let one of our pastors know. The strategy is very simple. Make your driveway or front yard available. Prepare a few snacks, hand out flyers provided by the church to your neighbors inviting them to a neighborhood block party, and then spend the evening getting to know them. We can help you with any logistical details. If you would like to help another family who is hosting, please let one of the pastors know and they can connect you to the right people.

Midweek Prayer Gathering – Each Wednesday at 6 PM
A few weeks ago, Pastor Mark preached a sermon entitled, “Pray”. You can watch or listen to that sermon here: Matthew 7:7-12, Pray, by Pastor Mark DeMoss. In that message Pastor Mark said that 2020 was God’s call for the church to pray. He challenged the church to be serious about prayer and said that CHBC would be looking for ways to pray for fervently and intentionally. Each Wednesday night at 6 PM will be times of prayer. This church family prayer gathering will be available for any who are not serving or participating in AWANA. Join us in room 221 for a time of prayer.

Quotes from Church History
Hudson Taylor: ““I am no longer anxious about anything, as I realize that He is able to carry out His will for me. It does not matter where He places me, or how. That is for Him to consider, not me, for in the easiest positions He will give me grace, and in the most difficult ones His grace is sufficient.”” – J. Hudson Taylor (1832-1905, Missionary and Founder of the China Inland Mission)

Prayer
Pray today that your life would be characterized by love. It is obedience, it is Christ-like, and it is the imitating of our Heavenly Father.

Ephesians 5:1-2
“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.”
