Capitol Hill Baptist Weekly September 4, 2020

Hurricane Laura
If you would like to support disaster relief efforts in Louisiana you can give to the Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief Team, and read more about their efforts here: SBC Disaster Relief. Or you can give to John Boaz and Lord Send Me Ministries here: Lord Send Me Ministries. John and LSMM helped with the Back to School Bash for many years, as well as came to OKC in 2013 to do tornado disaster relief. They have been a good partner to CHBC and will be doing disaster relief ministry in Louisiana.

Ekklesia – September 6, at 5 PM – Church Family Picnic
This Sunday night please join us on the north lawn under the large tent. Bring a chair and your own food and drink. We will sing, have a devotion, and then you are welcome to stay enjoy the shade, play volleyball, softball, soccer, gaga ball, or any other outdoor activities. Bring you children, grandchildren, and neighbors for a good time enjoying all of the outdoor amenities God has given our church.

Midweek Prayer Gathering – Each Wednesday at 6 PM
A few weeks ago, Pastor Mark preached a sermon entitled, “Pray”. You can watch or listen to that sermon here: Matthew 7:7-12, Pray, by Pastor Mark DeMoss. In that message Pastor Mark said that 2020 was God’s call for the church to pray. He challenged the church to be serious about prayer and said that CHBC would be looking for ways to pray for fervently and intentionally. Each Wednesday night at 6 PM will be times of prayer. This church family prayer gathering will be available for any who are not serving or participating in AWANA. There will be signs to point you to the prayer gathering once you arrive on property or enter the building.

AWANA
Mrs. Cheryl Ross and her AWANA Commanders have been working diligently to devise an altered AWANA program to allow a way for our children to return to AWANA. A plan that will take into consideration ways to lower the risk of spreading germs, while still allowing the children to learn the Bible, hear God’s Word, and have interactive game time. You can still register for AWANA online at CHBC AWANA Registration.

CHBC Re-Gathering – September 6, 2020
The church is not a building people meet together in, but a people who gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord.
The church is a people who gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord. The people known as Capitol Hill Baptist Church call that Exalting Christ. How we gather, where we gather, and when we gather can change. But exalting Christ is an essential purpose of what the church is to be and to do. We are Christ-exalters. And we exalt Christ. It is our person, our purpose, and our practice.
If you gather with us in person please know that we will continue physical distancing and sanitizing protocols, and that you are more than welcome to wear a face covering in order to protect others. Please RSVP, especially if you will be using ETC (Extended Teaching Care for 3 years and younger). The RSVP helps us be prepared for overflow seating, for children in ETC, and for seating in the Worship Center. Thank you for understanding the need to physically distance and to RSVP. Click the link to go the CHBC Re-Gathering RSVP page on the website: CHBC Re-Gathering RSVP. If you forget to RSVP or you meet someone you want to invite to worship with us, please still attend and do not worry about telling them how to RSVP. We will accommodate everyone either in the main Worship Center or in our overflow rooms.

Sunday School
We plan to begin Re-Grouping into Sunday School starting on September 13, 2020 at 9 AM. There are some changes to where groups will meet, so more details will be coming about how we plan to safely begin meeting in Sunday School Groups again. Watch for that information next week. We will continue to send you links to use on your own at your home as well.

The spiritual growth, the community building, and the ministry care that occurs in small groups is essential to healthy church growth. Until we meet please reach out to one another, keep telling your unbelieving friends about Christ, and use these materials for your own home group Sunday School. If asked to login, simply create your own account.

Quotes from Church History
John Newton: “When we look at the ungodly, we are not to hate them – but to pity them, mourn over them, and pray for them. Nor have we any right to boast over them; for, by nature, and of ourselves, we are no better than they.” – John Newton (1724-1807, Pastor, hymn author, former slave boat captain)

Prayer
What should I do? Where should I go? What do we do next? Have you asked the Lord, who leads us in the way we should go? Read Isaiah 48:17, and then ask Him.
Isaiah 48:17
“Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, Who leads you in the way you should go.”
