CHBC Connect for June 9, 2023

What is God’s Vision for CHBC?

CHBC exists to glorify God by Equipping Believers, Exalting Christ, and Extending the Gospel. What does it mean to extend the gospel? Is that giving to missions? Is that outreach events hosted by the church? Is that what the morning worship services are for?

We like to borrow a phrase from John Piper which states that evangelism exists because worship does not. We want to tell other people about the good news of God’s love so that they also can worship God. In other words evangelism spreads the praise of God to more and more people.

Extending the gospel includes supporting missionaries, hosting ministries like Vacation Bible School, and proclaiming the gospel through worship gatherings. But it is much more than those things. Extending the gospel is a mindset we need to exist by, so that all of life is lived all for Jesus, and the spread of the fame of His name.

Scripture of the Month - June

Titus 2:9-10, “Urge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well -pleasing, not argumentative, not pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect.”

During 2023 CHBC will be saying aloud verses from the book of Titus 2. CHBC quotes Scripture aloud during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. The goal of 2023 is for you to be able to quote the entire second chapter of the Epistle to Titus. Pick up your Scripture Memory card packs at the Resource Center outside the middle doors of the Worship Center.

What is God’s Vision for CHBC?

Do you live on purpose? Why does God wake you up each day? Do you have a sense of what His plan and purpose is for you? The Westminster Shorter Catechism says, “The chief end of man is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever.” Today we need to glorify God and enjoy Him.

The church quantifies this purpose in three simple statements: To Equip Believers, to Exalt Christ, and to Extend the Gospel. Exalting Christ may seem the most natural and natural way to glorify God. We can sense the action in it as we gather weekly for worship. But what about your personal exaltation of Christ? The daily practice of personal holiness is how we personally exalt Christ. Worship is an attitude of heart, not just the participation in public ritual. Reading the Bible, prayer, giving, doing right, rejecting sin, and avoiding temptation, even when no one else knows these things are taking place glorifies the Father.
