The Mission of CHBC – Biblically-Modeled
If we want to have a church that meets and ministers in South OKC, where do we get our ideas on how to establish this church and its practices? It seems to make sense that we would turn to the Bible, but make no mistake, the way of the world creeps into everything that it can. Since the church is people, we each bring the possibility of a secular worldview to everything the church is and does. Being Biblically-Modeled has to be an intentional activity we all take on. Reading our Bibles and applying the truths relentlessly. Pray for your pastors as we study and teach the Bible so that we equip each member to think biblically about our ecclesiology (the study of the church). This statement carries even greater importance when we understand the implications of wanting to worship God as God says to worship Him: The church is not a building people meet together in, but a people who gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord.
Platform Remodel
The platform remodel continues to take steps forward toward completion. We are still waiting on foam to be delivered to the manufacturer of the choir risers, and we are awaiting carpet fibers to be shipped to the carpet manufacturer. Thank you for patiently praying with the Building Team as this project is underway.
Deacon Ordination – May 1 at 5 PM
CHBC desires to maintain an active deacon body that has two primary responsibilities. The first of those is to lead the church to serve one another. The early deacons of the New Testament were called upon to lead the church to make sure that the physical care of widows was not overlooked, while freeing up the pastors to focus their attention on preaching and prayer. In other words, there was a division of duties: pastors give attention to the spiritual care of the flock; and deacons give attention to the physical care of the flock. That does not mean those duties do not overlap, but it made sure some group was responsible for both things. The second responsibility of deacons is to maintain the unity of the church. In Acts 6 the great threat was not hunger, but anger and division. The church selected men to meet needs and promote unity. On Sunday, May 1, CHBC will ordain two more deacons to this body of servant leaders. Join us on Sunday evening to celebrate this event. An ordination council made up of any ordained men will meet at 3:30 PM in room 206 to confirm that these men are ready to be set aside as deacons.
Secret Church – April 29 at 6 PM
Secret Church is an intensive video teaching event that is held about once per year. Pastor Jason and our Collegiate Ministry is leading out in bringing this event to CHBC. For 6 hours the attendees will listen to teaching on identity and pray for the persecuted church. How does the Bible answer the question, “Who Am I?” We know there is a great deal of confusion in our world over identity, especially among young people. The cost of this event is $5. CrossTimbers – Children’s Camp
This children’s camp is for children who will have completed the 3rd-6th grade at the end of this school term. The dates are June 20-23. There are only a few beds left. Scripture of the Month
Lamentations 3:22-23, “The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Each week CHBC says aloud a passage of Scripture during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. A Moment in Church History
On April 28, 1862, George Washington Bethune, hymn translator, and Reformed church pastor, dies while preaching in Florence, Italy. His hymn “It Is Not Death to Die” will be sung at his funeral. Prayer
Pray for unity in the body of Christ, by praying for and practicing humility. Humility destroys pride and promotes unity.
