The Vision of CHBC – Extending the Gospel
The ultimate goal of CHBC is to develop fully devoted disciples of Jesus Christ who live by the Great Commandment (Matt.22:36-40) and who fulfill the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20). The Great Commission is the command to the church to make disciples of all nations. Our purpose in the world is to share the gospel with other people who are to be equipped to know God, and to be Christ -exalters in their lives. We have no greater purpose toward our neighbors and the nations. When we say this is a command to the church, we understand that is a personal command from God to His redeemed people. It is not an institutional demand, but a personal command. The church is not a building people meet together in, but a people who gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord.
Platform Remodel
When you are worshipping on Sunday you will notice that the platform is still undergoing an expansion. This is to allow more space for the choir, orchestra, and band to all be on the platform, as well as provide a more flexible area for other worship events. While most of the carpentry work is complete, we are waiting for the final work of the electrician, AVL installments, delivery of choir risers, and installation of the carpet throughout the worship center. Thank you for your patience with a less than ideal worshipping platform.
CrossTimbers – Children’s Camp
This children’s camp is for children who will have completed the 3rd-6th grade at the end of this school term. The dates are June 20-23, but registration is necessary by April 10. Explore CHBC – April 3 & April 10
Explore CHBC is a three-week orientation to membership at Capitol Hill Baptist Church. We believe church membership is biblical and practical. We want to help you belong to the body of Christ and learn to love and serve your brothers and sisters in Christ out of mutual commitment for one another. Resurrection Celebration with CHBC – Good Friday 6-8 PM
We believe every Sunday is Resurrection Sunday, but we also think it is appropriate to have a date on the calendar that draws special attention to the most significant event in human history – the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We will mark our celebration of the resurrection two ways. First will be Good Friday at 6 PM. We will be showing the movie Sabina. This movie is about Sabina Wurmbrand, the wife of Voice of the Martyrs founder, Richard Wurmbrand. It will tell you more of their story as the Nazi came to power in Europe. We will also offer our elementary age children a different movie option from the VOM animated films for parents who are not ready to show your children the Sabina film. There is childcare for children 3 years old and younger, but you must register for this childcare. Visit our website to register for childcare.
Resurrection Day Worship – April 17
We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus every Sunday, but we think it is appropriate to have a date on the calendar to celebrate the resurrection in a special way. We will celebrate resurrection Sunday with a pancake breakfast from 9-10 AM in the Activity Center, and with worship at 10:15 AM in the Worship Center for our English-speaking service and Solomon’s Porch for our Spanish-speaking service.
Scripture of the Month
Lamentations 3:22-23, “The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Each week CHBC says aloud a passage of Scripture during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. A Moment in Church History
On March 31, 1515, Pope Leo X announces the sale of indulgences to repair St. Peter’s Basilica. Albert of Brandenberg is allowed to keep half the proceeds. He was in deep debt after purchasing his position as Archbishop. The announcement outrages the young Martin Luther, who subsequently nails his 95 Theses on the doors of Wittenberg, which launches the protestant reformation. Prayer
What a hopeful promise from the prophet Isaiah. Pray in adoration to God for being steadfast in His redemptive plan, and for His patient endurance of our sinfulness. Pray in thanksgiving to God for casting our sin upon His beautiful, innocent Son, and for punishing Him in our place in order to offer us eternal life.
