CHBC Weekly for June 17, 2022

The Mission of CHBC – The Lordship of Christ

Who is head of the church? This is more than a question of how a church operates, or its polity. Different denominations have different thoughts on polity, but that does not change the Biblical revelation of the Lordship of Christ. Christ is the head of the church (Col. 1:18). We acknowledge His Lordship over us personally and corporately by gathering together to sit under His revealed Word as it is read, sung, prayed, proclaimed, and displayed through the ordinances. The church is not a building people meet together in, but a people who gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord.

Scripture of the Month

Mark 12:30-31, “and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Each week CHBC says aloud a passage of Scripture during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. Receive a text to your phone with this verse set to music by texting the word “CHBCVERSE” to the number (302) 207-SONG (7664).

A Moment in Church History

On June 16, 1818, marks the death of Samuel J. Mills at sea. He had been exploring Africa to see if a mission work could be established. With Adoniram Judson and others, Mills had been a founder of American foreign missions. Learn more about what happened on this date in church history by following this link: Today in Church History.

Prayer

Pray for a rightful fear of the Lord, and experience where His compassion flows from.

Psalm 103:13

“Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.”
