Pastor Mark's Weekly Update September 19, 2019

Bible’s Being Read to Students by Teachers in Public Schools
That is a shocking statement to us, but it is happening in rural schools in Guatemala.  Last year CHBC and our mission team hosted an area-wide teachers conference for the second time in the last 4 years.  70 teachers attended that conference.  One of those teachers became a Christian 2 years ago as a result of our witness.  She began to read the Bible each morning to her students.  When that story traveled home with us this year, a member of the Hispanic ministry gave money to buy a story-book Bible for every teacher that attended the conference.  Today, each of those 70 teachers have a story-book Bible and are following the example of the lady who began to read each morning from God’s Word.  More than 1,000 students hear a Bible story at the start of their school day because of the mission spirit at CHBC.  Thank you, Capitol Hill Baptist, and thank the Lord for abundant grace.

Resolved
“Resolved, never to give over, nor in the least to slacken my fight with my corruptions, however unsuccessful I may be.” (Edwards, 1723) We should fight sin and temptation, even though we fully understand there may be another failure with the same sin again in the future.  The pursuit of holiness requires the help of the Holy Spirit, and it will not end until we stand in heaven.  But it is our resolve to wage war against the flesh that is part of the fruit born out of genuine conversion.
