Pastor Mark's Weekly Update September 5, 2019

Love Your Neighbor
Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 5 PM, we will be practicing what we preach.  We claim to be a church that wants to make disciples that live by the Great Commandment and fulfills the Great Commission.  Love Your Neighbor is a strategic way to put that pursuit into practice.  You can participate by hosting your neighbors to your home, by partnering with another family as they host at their home, providing food to friends who are hosting at their home, or coming to the church to pray for our neighborhood outreach.

Associate Pastor Search
Many of you know that the Personnel Committee will be presenting a new search team to the church for a new Associate Pastor of Students and Families.  We will also be hearing an update very soon from our search team for the Associate Pastor of Worship.  Be in prayer during this time of transition.  We are excited about the future pastors God will be providing for CHBC.

CHBC Equipping, Exalting and Extending this Fall

  • Love Your Neighbor – Sept. 8 at 5 PM (Homes and Church Prayer)
  • CHBC Explore – Orientation for Membership to CHBC (Sept. 8, 15, 22)
  • Haunt Old Town - Oct. 26
  • Greet and Treat/Love Your Neighbor – Oct. 31, Neighborhood outreach during Halloween
  • ENGAGEnow – A Conference hosted at CHBC focused on engaging the culture with the gospel.

CHBC Explore
September 8, 15, 22 at 9 AM in the Conference Room.
CHBC Explore is the membership orientation class for CHBC.  We have the conviction that membership matters.  Because of that conviction we want each member to be fully acquainted with who we are, what we believe, and how to engage in life with CHBC.  As a guest you are invited to see what it means to be a church committed to equipping, exalting and extending for the glory of God.  The next CHBC Explore Classes will begin on September 8 at 9 AM.  The class will occur three consecutive Sundays at 9 AM in the conference room.

Resolved
“Resolved, whenever I do any conspicuously evil action, to trace it back, till I come to the original cause; and then both carefully endeavor to do so no more, and to fight and pray with all my might against the original of it.” (Edwards, 1723) Do you wage war with your sin?  If you want to, it begins with this exercise.  Find the root, repent, and pray for God’s help and holiness by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Do not forget the acronym CAR in fighting your sin:
C – Confess the sin before God (and others when appropriate)
A – Agree that God does forgive sin by the power of shed blood of Christ on the cross
R – Request God’s help through the Holy Spirit to not continue in this sinful way
