Third Thursday Adult Bible Study

main image

Dear CHBC Family and Friends,

Have you heard about the new monthly Bible study for adults? It is called Third Thursday. Why? Because it will occur on the Third Thursday of each month. Who is this Bible study for? It is for any adult who is free at 10 AM on the Third Thursday. Semi-retired, fully retired, stay-at-home parent, or any one who is available for any reason.

What is the purpose of this Bible study? The theme is S.E.R.V.E.

S – knowing and using your Spiritual Gifts

E – learning to find opportunities to be Evangelistic

R – discovering how to develop better, deeper, and more meaningful Relationships

V – experiencing a Vital relationship with the Lord through His Word and the Holy Spirit

E – becoming a follower of Christ who can Exhort a younger generation to love and follow Jesus

What will happen each Third Thursday?

10:00 AM – Welcome and Worship – Pastor Brady (or a guest when he is unavailable)

10:15 AM – Devotion – Pastor Mark (or a guest when he is unavailable)

10:45 AM – Service activity to bless CHBC or the community

11:15 AM – Leave for Lunch (hopefully together) at a local restaurant

Third Thursday is a way for CHBC to bring adults who have entered a season of life with a larger portion of free time to gather in fellowship, worship, Bible study, and service. We hope you will happily join us and invite neighbors and friends who may be looking for meaningful community and deeper sense of purpose.

God’s Vision for CHBC: 3 Piers, 3 Pillars, and 3 Purposes

3 Piers: The Centrality of the Scriptures, the Lordship of Christ, and the Glory of God

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. (2 Tim. 3:16-17)

A church does not determine its existence. The church is God’s plan flowing from God’s good and wise will, and therefore must follow God’s design. So, when CHBC thinks about the church we start with God. Where does the church find her purpose and her convictions? Since the intent is to discover that from God, then we discover it in His Word, the Bible.

Therefore, the base of our foundation as a church is the Centrality of the Scriptures. All Scripture is inspired by God (2 Tim. 3:16). This means that it is infallible, or incapable of error. If it is incapable of error, then it contains no error (it is inerrant).

The Bible is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in our righteousness (2 Tim 3:16). God has provided all that we need for life and godliness by the revelation of Christ through the Word of God (2 Pet. 1:3). The Bible is sufficient for our sanctification (John 17:17). God’s Word equips us for every good work (2 Tim. 3:17) because it is superior to the wisdom of man (1 Cor. 1:20).

We do not worship the Bible; we worship the One true God who is revealed in the precious pages of Scripture. But we do love and value the Word of God for in it we are led to our salvation (2 Cor. 7:10).

By His Grace and For His Glory,

Pastor Mark
