Refreshed and Ready
Thank you CHBC for the two-week sabbatical! I am refreshed by my time with the Lord (Luke 5:14). I am ready to go with you on the journey of following Christ and making disciples of all nations. As a family we are grateful for the Lord blessing us to be able to serve at CHBC, and I am indebted to God for allowing me the privilege of preaching the Word of God to the people of God known as Capitol Hill Baptist.
No More Church Attenders
Is it responsible for the pastor to say we do not want any more church attenders? I can tell you whole-heartedly that I am not after anyone to attend church. I pray for and long for you and me to be gathered worshippers of the Lord Jesus Christ and our Father God through the Holy Spirit. I pray for us to be a people overwhelmed by our sinfulness and the good news of the gospel. It is my desire to see a people undone (Is. 6) by the presence of God such that we experience the power of God in our lives so prevalently that we cannot help but sing loudly, pray deeply, and listen intently. What I am describing is not church attendance. God is looking for those who will worship in spirit and truth (John 4). He is not looking for church attenders.
Who’s Your One?
In the weeks leading up to Easter we are encouraging every member of CHBC to consider Who’s Your One? Who’s the one you pray will come to faith in Christ? Who’s the one you pray will begin to become faithful in church? Who’s the one you pray you will have the opportunity to share Christ with, or invite to church?

Love Your Neighbor
This Summer we are taking our desire to reach and minister to the greater South OKC Metro from our parking lot to our neighborhoods. Jesus gave us a great command, “to love your neighbor as yourself” (Matt. 22:36-40). We have been asking the question, “What would it look like to do this literally?”. Instead of the Back to School Bash this summer we are asking you to be part of a gospel strategy called Love Your Neighbor. You can find out more by following this link to our website: Love Your Neighbor. Host and Co-hosts have been assigned. They will be asking for others to provide food, canvas neighborhoods, and be on the prayer team. As with all mission efforts it takes the members of the church to go, support, and pray. Every one of us should be doing one or more of these as we attempt the bold move of saturating OKC with the gospel.
Easter
April 21 is the traditional day of Easter this year. We will prepare our hearts for meditating again on the power of the resurrection starting on April 14. Sunday, April 14 we will think about Christ’s move to Jerusalem knowing He was going to the cross. On Thursday we encourage you to visit Emmaus Baptist Church during the day or evening for a self-guided walk through experience of passion week. Then, on Friday, April 19 join with Christians from around South OKC in our worship center at CHBC to worship God as we reflect on the great salvation paid for by us on the cross. Then, Easter Sunday we will be ready to celebrate the power of the resurrection. Learn more by clicking on this link: Holy Week Worship
Resolutions
With this week’s resolution Pastor Jonathan Edwards (1723) encourages us to live with both heaven and hell in mind. “Resolved, to endeavor to my utmost to act as I can think I should do, if I had already seen the happiness of heaven, and hell torments.”
