The Mission of CHBC – 3 Piers, 3 Pillars, and 3 Purposes

The three piers, or non-negotiables, upon which we believe the church is founded are the Centrality of the Scriptures, the Lordship of Christ, and the Glory of God. CHBC exists for the Glory of God. The reason we pursue the goal of developing fully devoted disciples of Christ, who live by the Great Commandment and fulfill the Great Commission is for God’s glory. God established the church and its mission in order to manifest His glorious presence. We joyfully work, pray, and serve to see more worshippers.

Associate Pastor for Worship Ministries
Continue praying as our search committee collects resumes, reviews candidates, and seeks the Lord on behalf of the church. The work of calling a pastor deserves great attention, serious commitment to prayer, and a sensitivity to the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

Joint Youth and Adult Sunday School Breakfast – October 30, 2022
On Sunday, October 30 from 9-10 AM the CHBC Youth Ministry and the CHBC Adult Sunday school groups will meet together in the Activity Center. Please bring a breakfast item you could share with others. We will eat together, and have a joint lesson on the mission and purpose of Sunday school. We encourage you to sit with or near your classes, as part of the time will be spent in large group instruction, and part of the time will be spent in class discussion.

Marks of a Disciple – New Adult Sunday School Group begins November 6
We are beginning a new adult Sunday school group on November 6, 2022. This group will be led by Lance and Shawna Nuthman. This is an opportunity for adults of any age who have not been attending Sunday school to start attending or start attending again. This study comes from Lifeway Resources Marks of a Disciple small group Bible study. Come learn what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

Greet and Treat & Love Your Neighbor – October 31
CHBC each year encourages you to use the night that our neighborhoods fill up with Trick or Treaters to engage our neighbors with the love of Jesus. If you have young children take them through our neighborhood that night letting them hand out our Greet and Treat Bags. If your children have grown, make your home a Love Your Neighbor Station. Some people set up games, serve popcorn, serve hot chocolate, or make a fire pit, inviting Trick or Treaters and their families to stop for a moment, rest, and visit as they make their way around the neighborhood. It is an effective way to know your neighbors and give you an opportunity to put a treat in their bag and give them an invitation to join with CHBC for a Sunday of Worship.

Scripture of the Month - October
John 13:34-35, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Each week CHBC says aloud a passage of Scripture during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. Receive a text to your phone with this verse set to music by texting the word “CHBCVERSE” to the number (302) 207-SONG (7664).

Prayer

Pray for the people of God to love the word of God, and to be shaped by its truth through obedience to its commands, and application of its prescripts.

2 Tim. 3:16-17

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”

Discipleship Resources for October 27, 2022

DISCIPLESHIP RESOURCES

Christ has given us the overarching command to make disciples. Not as a program, a class, an organizational strategy, an expansion model, or a marketing strategy. Matthew 28:19-20 tells us that as we are going we are to make disciples. Within the natural course of our lives, we are to make disciples. Our activity in relationship is to be making disciples. If you are a parent, you are making disciples. When you shop, eat, workout, go to work, wherever you go, you are to make disciples. You might think that disciple-making is an activity unto itself. You might think that you cannot make disciples while working in a secular job. But God expects our entire lives to be a witness for Him anywhere and everywhere. The resources in this list are meant to inform your mind, and encourage your spirit in the task of disciple making. What you know you can talk about. So, fill your mind with God’s glorious truths.
