The Mission of CHBC – 3 Piers

The purpose statement for CHBC is that Capitol Hill Baptist Church exists for the glory of God by Equipping Believers, Exalting Christ, and Extending the Gospel. We know that our purpose must be grounded on core convictions and founded on absolute truth. Our three-fold purpose is founded on the non-negotiables of the Glory of God, the Centrality of the Scriptures, and the Lordship of Christ. We call those our 3 Piers. Those three absolutes keep the purpose of what we do grounded in the reality of God, His divine nature, and His revealed Word. This not only informs our worship but infuses our worship with truth.

EXPLORE CHBC – August 21 @ 9 AM

Membership in the local church is not attendance without accountability, but commitment with responsibility. Membership matters, and we want to help all members of CHBC to find their way into meaningful community at CHBC. Our Explore CHBC course is designed to explain the importance of membership, introduce you to the history and vision of CHBC, and connect you to ways to love and be loved by the body of Christ at CHBC. Although this is the last week of our 3-week course, we will be offering our 3-week orientation beginning again on October 2.

Truth at Home

You may have noticed the large display being built in the Main Hall at the north entrance of our building as you come to the Children and Student wing of the education building. This display is our Truth at Home resource center. CHBC wants to provide families with material to deal with the challenging conversations and changing times of raising children, launching children, and experiencing other life-changing events. These resources are meant to be a starting point to open the door to conversations with pastors, biblical counselors, or others. The resource center is still under construction but will soon be fully functioning and available. Please stop by frequently as the material will be updated regularly.

Praise and Testimony Ekklesia (Evening Worship) – August 21 at 5 PM

This Sunday night we have a special worship gathering where will spend some time in praise and testimony. As we conclude our summer, we want to be grateful for God’s work in our midst and to give Him proper glory. Come and be encouraged by God’s work among His people at CHBC.

Members’ Meeting – August 21 at 6 PM

Following the evening Ekklesia this week CHBC will have its 2nd Quarter Members’ Meeting. A review of financials, and various other reports will be shared as we exercise our congregational function as a local church.

SNAC – August 21 at 6:30 PM

SNAC stands for Sunday Night After Church. This is a regular event of our Student Ministry. All 7th-12th graders and their families are encouraged to join together in a time of fellowship. The SNAC this Sunday night is hosted at the home of the Miller’s. If you need more information please contact your Sunday School Teacher, Pastor Jason, or the Millers.

Other Upcoming Activities

August 21 – Sunday Members’ Meeting (following Ekklesia)

August 28 – Little River Park Cookout & Outreach (5-7 PM)

September 4 – Labor Day Picnic (5 PM)

Scripture of the Month

Hebrews 4:16, “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Each week CHBC says aloud a passage of Scripture during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. Receive a text to your phone with this verse set to music by texting the word “CHBCVERSE” to the number (302) 207-SONG (7664).

Prayer

Pray for one another to live with such abandon for Christ that this testimony of the Apostle Paul could be voiced by us all.

Philippians 1:21

“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

The Mission of CHBC – Extending the Gospel

CHBC exists for the glory of God to live by the Great Commandment (Matt. 22:36-40) and to fulfill the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20). Jesus gave a clear statement of purpose to the church. Part of that purpose is to let the whole world know that Jesus Christ is Lord, and that by placing faith alone in Christ they can be saved from the sure and eternal punishment for sin. We cannot ignore that purpose locally as we meet for Sunday School and worship, as we go to our daily tasks, nor as we think about how to engage the broader world.

Promotion Sunday – August 14 – 9 AM

Promotion Sunday marks the beginning of a new year of Sunday School and Adult Bible Study. Preschoolers, Children, and Youth go to classes that correspond to their new school grade. This is a great Sunday to invite friends who do not regularly attend church, and it is great way to start the habit of Sunday morning attendance in Sunday School. Make promotion day a priority on your weekend calendar. Go to bed on time Saturday night, with clothes set out, Bible laid by the door, and a quick breakfast plan for the next morning.

Lord’s Supper – August 14 – 10:15 AM Worship

Both the Spanish-speaking and English-speaking worship services will be having the Lord’s Supper this Sunday morning. CHBC participates in the Lord’s Supper 6 times each year. All professing believers who have been baptized by immersion are invited to participate with us in commemorating our Savior’s death, burial, and resurrection, while we await His return.

Special Called Members’ Meeting – August 14 at 11:30 AM

Immediately following the morning worship service CHBC will have a special called Members’ Meeting in order to consider endorsement for a member who intends to pursue his doctoral degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Sunday School Leadership Rally/No Ekklesia (evening worship) – August 14

The Sunday School Leaders Rally will occur from 4-6 PM in the Choir Suite off the main hall. Our special guest will be Dr. Joe Sherrer. He will share a vision for Sunday School with our entire Sunday School Leadership Team, and then will lead the Adult Breakout Session. If you have any responsibility in the Sunday School of CHBC you are strongly encouraged to attend our 2022-2023 Sunday School Kickoff Rally.

AWANA Kick-Off – August 17 @ 6PM

AWANA is an exciting ministry to children that occurs every Wednesday during school terms. Children from 2 years of age and up are engaged in learning God’s Word in an environment that includes Bible knowledge, Scripture memory, missions, and play. Friends are not only welcome, but usually cannot wait to return. Enroll your child(ren) this Wednesday night at the CHBC Activity Center.

EXPLORE CHBC – August 14, & 21 @ 9 AM

Membership matters, and we want to help all members of CHBC to find their way into meaningful community at CHBC. This is week two of our three-week course taught by our Senior Pastor and meets in the church conference room. You may join in with us even if you missed week 1. No pre-registration is necessary. Any guest is welcome to attend.
