God’s Vision for CHBC: 3 Piers, 3 Pillars, and 3 Purposes
3 Pillars: Biblically-Modeled; Mission-Minded; and Multi-Cultural
Why fight for a Multi-Cultural church when homogenous is easier. Homogenous means things of the same kind. Like things attract alike things. The problem is that a Biblical worldview teaches that what makes us alike is not the physical characteristic we possess, or the background that we come from, but the salvation we have through Jesus Christ.
The New Testament church was made up of those who, “have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him— 11 a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all,” (Col. 3:10-11). Our new identity releases us from our former distinctions based on ethnic identity, religious identity, tribal identity, or social status.
The modern world fights to segment people off into their groups, tribes, and identities. We cannot fall for these false identifiers. We must lay claim to our identity in Christ, and “as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience;” (Col. 3:12).
To live in community that is Multi-Cultural we will need a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. God knows that will not come naturally, that is why it is part of our belonging to Him, and it is a command that comes from Him, and enabled by Him through the Holy Spirit.
Unity in diversity is a representation of the nature of God, of His design, and of His plan for eternity. Unity through homogeneity is a design of the world, influenced by Satan, as a counterfeit to God’s good plan.
By His Grace and For His Glory,
Pastor Mark
