Love Your Neighbor – August 23, 5 PM

The Vision: Matthew 22:36-40
The Strategy: Strangers to Friends, Friends to Family through building intentional relationships and opportunities to share the life-changing power of Jesus Christ

There are three ways you can participate in the Love Your Neighbor Strategy

  • First, you can be a host home – these have been determined for this time, but there are two more opportunities this year for you to host your neighbors to your front yard to show them love and show them Christ (September 27th and October 31st)
  • Second, you can co-host – there is still time for you to assist one of our host homes by being present with a host, helping with set up, food, and building those relationships. Our neighbors need to see us interact with our Christian friends to sense what it is like to be part of a community. Contact Susan DeMoss, or Henry and Keo Chan to find out where you could plug in and help a host
  • Third, you can pray – yes, you can pray anywhere, but you and I know we are more likely to pray if we have accountability to do so. Therefore, we will have a prayer time at the church from 5-6 PM on August 23. All you have to do is show up and you will receive instructions on how to pray not only for the Love Your Neighbor gatherings, but for the church as a whole

Midweek Church Family Prayer Gathering – August 26, 6 PM
A few weeks ago, Pastor Mark preached a sermon entitled, “Pray”. You can watch or listen to that sermon here: Matthew 7:7-12, Pray, by Pastor Mark DeMoss. In that message Pastor Mark said that 2020 was God’s call for the church to pray. He challenged the church to be serious about prayer and said that CHBC would be looking for ways to pray for fervently and intentionally. This Wednesday night at 6 PM is one of those times. This church family prayer gathering will intentionally be inclusive of all ages since the body of Christ is made up families, singles, young children, growing teens, young adults, parents, and grandparents. Come join us for this time of prayer.

AWANA
Mrs. Cheryl Ross and her AWANA Commanders have been working diligently to devise an altered AWANA program to allow for a way for our children to return to AWANA. A plan that will take into consideration ways to lower the risk of spreading germs, while still allowing the children to learn the Bible, hear God’s Word, and have interactive game time. The plan is to begin AWANA again on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 6 PM. Pray for the spiritual growth of our children as we try to continue raising future generations to follow Jesus.

CHBC Re-Gathering – August 23, 2020
The church is not a building people meet together in, but a people who gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord.

We gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord. He is Lord because God raised Him from the dead. That central fact is essential to Christianity. We are Christians because Jesus is alive. We do not gather for religious experience. We come with other celebrating saints to see and savor the Risen King of Kings. If He really is the focus of your reason to gather, then you are just happy to see others who come like you. You are not able to carry to His celebration any misgivings toward others who are just as needy and just as humbled as you.

If you gather with us in person please know that we will continue physical distancing and sanitizing protocols, and that you are more than welcome to wear a mask in order to protect others. Please RSVP, especially if you will be using ETC (Extended Teaching Care for 3 years and younger). The RSVP helps us be prepared for overflow seating, for children in ETC, and for seating in the Worship Center. Thank you for understanding the need to physically distance and to RSVP. Click the link to go the CHBC Re-Gathering RSVP page on the website.  If you forget to RSVP or you meet someone you want to invite to worship with us, please still attend and do not worry about telling them how to RSVP. We will accommodate everyone either in the main Worship Center or in our overflow rooms.

Quotes from Church History
George Whitefield: “If you are going to walk with Jesus Christ, you are going to be opposed.... In our days, to be a true Christian is really to become a scandal.” – George Whitefield (1714-1770, English and American Preacher, Part of the First Great Awakening)

Sunday School
Staff continues to explore ways to Re-Group for Sunday School. Sunday School is a vital ministry in the life of a local church. The spiritual growth, the community building, and the ministry care that occurs in small groups is essential to healthy church growth. We hope to unfold a comprehensive Re-Grouping plan in the next few days. Until we can meet please reach out to one another, keep telling your unbelieving friends about Christ, and use these materials for your own home group Sunday School.  If asked to login, simply create your own account.

Prayer
Prayer is communing with God. Set the Lord before you. Which I take to mean rehearsing with our minds who God is. Not simply being able to state His names, but truly meditating on who He is for us.

Psalm 16:8

“I have set the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”
