Capitol Hill Baptist Weekly November 20, 2020
Poinsettias for Sale
One of the fun and exciting things that is a tradition at CHBC is decorating the building for Christmas. We use the Sunday afternoon following services on the Sunday after Thanksgiving to work together to place wreaths, nativity sets, and Christmas trees throughout the building. We also use poinsettias. You can purchase a poinsettia to be used for décor in honor of a loved one. After the holidays you may take your poinsettia home with you. Poinsettia sales will begin this Sunday in the foyer.
Angel Tree
Angel Tree is a ministry started by Chuck Colson and Prison Fellowship to provide Christmas presents to the children of people who are incarcerated. The point of Angel Tree is to keep a bridge between the incarcerated parent and their children, while sharing the gospel with both the prisoner and the child. Prison Fellowship has requirements for inmates to qualify and works with the caregivers of the children. To sponsor a child through CHBC and Angel Tree follow this URL: https://tinyurl.com/chbcokcangeltree2020, and enter the code: TTOYE. Watch this video to learn more: Angel Tree
CHBC Re-Gathering – November 22, 2020
The church is not a building people meet together in, but a people who gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord.
Not a building, but a people! People who are taught by God through the Bible. Part of the mission of the church is to equip believers to know God through His Word. This is why we have made it a priority to continue teaching and preaching, while providing at home equipping resources, and online services. We cannot abandon our mission.
Remember that we are offering our weekly service by live stream through the CHBC Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/chbcokc/. We are also providing seating in the Activity Center for Sunday School and Worship services, and we are asking that any who attend in this space wear a face covering for the duration of that time.
If you gather with us in the Worship Center know that we are physically distancing and sanitizing. You are more than welcome to wear a face covering at all times in order to protect others. Please RSVP, especially if you will be using ETC (Extended Teaching Care for 3 years and younger). The RSVP helps us be prepared for overflow seating, for children in ETC, and for seating in the Worship Center. Thank you for understanding the need to physically distance and to RSVP. Click the link to go the CHBC Re-Gathering RSVP page on the website: CHBC Re-Gathering RSVP. If you forget to RSVP or you meet someone you want to invite to worship with us, please still attend and do not worry about telling them how to RSVP. We will accommodate everyone either in the main Worship Center or in our overflow rooms.
Sunday School
CHBC is currently Re-Grouping into Sunday School. Each class begins at 9 AM. You can read the Re-Grouping Plan for Sunday School here: CHBC Sunday School Re-Grouping. There are some changes to where groups meet, so please read the plan carefully. We will continue to send you links to use on your own at your home as well. You can find those below:

Quotes from Church History
John Robinson: “So many there… as saw the evil these things… and whose hearts the Lord had touched with heavenly zeal for His truth; they shook off this yoke of antichristian bondage; and as the Lord’s free people; joined themselves (by a covenant of the Lord) into a church estate, in the fellowship of the gospel to walk in all his ways… whatsoever it should cost them.” – John Robinson (1575-1625, Pastor to the Pilgrims before they came to America in 1620)
Prayer
This Psalm was part of the Pilgrim Thanksgiving after coming to Plymouth. On November 12, 1620, before departing their ship they had their first church service in the new world.
Psalm 100
“Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Serve the Lord with jubilation;
Come before Him with rejoicing.
3 Know that the Lord Himself is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
4 Enter His gates with thanksgiving,
And His courtyards with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
5 For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting
And His faithfulness is to all generations.”
