CHBC Connect for June 16, 2023

What is God’s Vision for CHBC?
The Mission Statement for Capitol Hill Baptist Church is that CHBC exists to Equip Believers, Exalt Christ, and Extend the Gospel, for the glory of God. The ultimate goal is to develop fully devoted disciples of Jesus Christ who live by the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:36-40) and who fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). The worship services, ministries, and activities of the church are all designed to help believers pursue this vision.

Cross Timbers – June 19-22
Pray for our 3rd-6th Graders who will be attending children’s camp during this upcoming week. Pray for Mr. Tom and his sponsors as they lead our children. Pray for the camp pastor as he preaches the gospel to the hundreds of children present at Cross Timbers. Pray that our children will be receptive to the leading of the Holy Spirit this week.

June 18 – Father’s Day
CHBC will take a moment in the morning worship service to recognize fathers. We also take care to understand that not every child has had a positive relationship with their father, so we point everyone to the Heavenly Father who is the only One who can truly meet the needs of our heart. Every person, regardless of the relationship they have had with men on this earth, needs a personal relationship with God the Father, through His Son, Jesus Christ.

June 25 – Sunday School Leader Training from 4 – 6 PM
CHBC committed this to be the year of Sunday School. It is our desire to strengthen the small group ministry of the church. Sunday School Leaders will gather for training and inspiration on Sunday, June 25 from 4-6 PM. There will be no evening services that day so that church leadership can be invested in strengthening our Sunday School Leadership.

July 2 – Evening Worship at Little River Park from 5-7 PM
CHBC will hold evening services on July 2 at Little River Park in Moore. Enter from the south of the park and go to the playground and splash pad pavilions. We will worship together, serve hot dogs, and do outreach. We want our neighbors to see us being the church.

Falls Creek Youth Camp – July 10-15
Youth camp is for students who have completed 7th-12 grade. The cost is $150 per student. Second and third child discounts may be applied. See the website for details or to register: Falls Creek

CHBC Resource Center
Visit the CHBC Resource Center outside the Worship Center. There are three featured books: The ESV Study Bible; Systematic Theology, by Wayne Grudem; and The Valley of Vision, ed. by Arthur Bennett. Our featured books are for sale and are books that we believe every Christian home should own. There are also several free resources.

Scripture of the Month - June
Titus 2:9-10, “Urge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well -pleasing, not argumentative, not pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect.”

During 2023 CHBC will be saying aloud verses from the book of Titus 2. CHBC quotes Scripture aloud during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. The goal of 2023 is for you to be able to quote the entire second chapter of the Epistle to Titus. Pick up your Scripture Memory card packs at the Resource Center outside the middle doors of the Worship Center.

The Mission of CHBC – 3 Piers, 3 Pillars, and 3 Purposes
The three piers, or non-negotiables, upon which we believe the church is founded are the Centrality of the Scriptures, the Lordship of Christ, and the Glory of God. CHBC is committed to do all that it does grounded in these three facts. The Bible must be the center of all that a church does. It is by the Scriptures that God is revealed. It is through the hearing of the word of God that a person is saved. It is from the Bible that a person is comforted, given wisdom, is sanctified, and is given instruction for faith and life.

Associate Pastor for Worship Ministries
Our newly elected search committee will be meeting again this week. Please pray for guidance as they look at our worship ministry needs, evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of our current worship ministry,  as they review the job description for this position, as they determine the sources from which to seek resumes, and as they begin to formulate the questions to ask potential candidates.

Marks of a Disciple – New Adult Sunday School Group begins November 6
We are beginning a new adult Sunday school group on November 6, 2022. This group will be led by Lance and Shawna Nuthman. This is an opportunity for adults of any age who have not been attending Sunday school to start attending or start attending again. This study comes from Lifeway Resources Marks of a Disciple small group Bible study. Come learn what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

Greet and Treat & Love Your Neighbor – October 31
CHBC each year encourages you to use the night that our neighborhoods fill up with Trick or Treaters to engage our neighbors with the love of Jesus. If you have young children take them through our neighborhood that night letting them hand out our Greet and Treat Bags. If your children have grown, make your home a Love Your Neighbor Station. Some people set up games, serve popcorn, serve hot chocolate, or make a fire pit, inviting Trick or Treaters and their families to stop for a moment, rest, and visit as they make their way around the neighborhood. It is an effective way to know your neighbors and give you an opportunity to put a treat in their bag and give them an invitation to join with CHBC for a Sunday of Worship.

Scripture of the Month - October
John 13:34-35, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Each week CHBC says aloud a passage of Scripture during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. Receive a text to your phone with this verse set to music by texting the word “CHBCVERSE” to the number (302) 207-SONG (7664).

Prayer
Encourage one another with the hope of a Sovereign God.

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.”
