CHBC Weekly for August 5, 2022
The Mission of CHBC – Exalting Christ
We should not think of this part of our mission statement as a word about singing. We do exalt Christ when we sing songs of praise or hymns reflecting biblical truth, but public gathered worship is more than singing, and exalting Christ is more than our public gathering. We also exalt Christ as we pursue personal, practical holiness. The Bible says in John 14:15, ““If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”
AWANA Training – August 10 @ 6PM
If you are a church member who would like to serve in ministry through AWANA please attend the AWANA Training and Leadership Kick-off next Wednesday night in the Worship Center. If you are already serving in this ministry, then you must attend this meeting in order to be prepared for the start of a new year for AWANA. “The mission of AWANA is to equip leaders to reach kids with the gospel and engage them in lifelong discipleship.” (AWANA International website).
CAMP BIG Enough – August 7 @ 8:45 AM
CHBC preschoolers who will be turning 4 years of age are introduced to what it is like to attend Big Church. Our preschool ministry prepares moms and dads with resources and tools to navigate this big change in the life of your child. This is a step worth celebrating, and we are excited to help with this transition. Camp Big Enough is Sunday, August 7 at 8:45 AM.
EXPLORE CHBC – August 7, 14, & 21 @ 9 AM
Membership in the local church is not attendance without accountability, but commitment with responsibility. Membership matters, and we want to help all members of CHBC to find their way into meaningful community at CHBC. Our Explore CHBC course is designed to explain the importance of membership, introduce you to the history and vision of CHBC, and connect you to ways to love and be loved by the body of Christ at CHBC. This is a three-week course taught by our Senior Pastor and meets in the church conference room. No pre-registration is necessary. Any guest is welcome to attend.
120th Anniversary – August 7, 2022
The Missionary Baptist Church of Capitol Hill was constituted on the second Sunday of August in 1902. That church became known as Capitol Hill Baptist Church. We will mark our 120th Anniversary as an organized, local body of believers on August 7th. The day will include a regular morning schedule. Special displays will be in the hallways to be seen before Sunday School, before Worship, and following Worship. We will have some moments during the morning worship service to mark this special occasion. We will also be serving a catered lunch following the service. You can purchase a ticket for the lunch at a cost of $5 per person and $20 for a family maximum for you and children living in your home. You may purchase tickets in the Foyer or online.

Scripture of the Month
Hebrews 4:16, “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Each week CHBC says aloud a passage of Scripture during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. Receive a text to your phone with this verse set to music by texting the word “CHBCVERSE” to the number (302) 207-SONG (7664).
Prayer
Prayer begins with praise to God who hears and answers prayer. Adore the One who hears us and speaks mighty things.
Jeremiah 33:2-3
“Thus says the Lord who made the earth, the Lord who formed it to establish it, the Lord is His name, ‘Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’”
Mark D. DeMoss, Senior Pastor
