Discipleship Resources - August 20, 2020
CHBC,
Have you purposed to put your mind on Christ and His Kingdom? Discipleship is not the second-stage of Christianity. I.e. it does not mean become a convert of believing in Christ, and then later for some of us to begin to be a disciple. Discipleship is a life-time process of what is described in the Great Commission of Matthew 28:18-20. “18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
A disciple is made when that person trusts in Christ and is converted to a Christian, when that new believer is baptized, and as that believer grows in the teaching of all of Jesus commands. It is a life long process. The word “discipleship” is not in the New Testament. But “to make a disciple” is a very strong New Testament word that is full of meaning and expression. Our own personal discipleship is the by-product of what others and the Holy Spirit are doing inside of us. Our goal is to be a disciple as we make disciples. May these resources help.
