Worship at CHBC – A Reminder
The church is not a building people meet together in, but a people who gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord. Not just any people. People we know, love, and care for. As well as people we want to get to know, develop a love for, and begin to care for. As we worship this Sunday be mindful of the best ways to protect one another’s health. Be aware of your own healthiness as you prepare to come to Sunday School and worship. Worship with us online if you have fever, or a cough related to a virus. While present wash your hands, do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. For those who feel more comfortable wearing a face covering please know that is completely acceptable.

August 15 – Sunday School Promotion
Each year at CHBC we make a special day out of the Sunday that our preschoolers, children, and youth move to a new grade level. That day is called Promotion Sunday. Those children and students will move to new classes on August 15. Sunday School always starts at 9 AM. Make sure your children and students are in Sunday School this week to say a final goodbye and thank you to their teachers for this year. Then plan to be here on the 15th to get started in new classes for 2021-2022 Sunday School year.

AWANA
It is not long before AWANA begins again. Training for Leaders will occur on August 11 at 6 PM in the Worship Center. AWANA Kick-Off Night will be on August 18 at 6 PM in the Activity Center. And the first night of AWANA Clubs will be on August 25 at 6 PM. If you are a church member who has submitted to a background check, and completed our Ministry Safe Training, and would like to serve in AWANA please contact the church office, see Cheryl Ross, or see Tom Hollis. Scripture of the Month
Each week CHBC says aloud a passage of Scripture during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. The Scripture we will say and memorize for the month of July is 1 John 2:15-17, “Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.” You can receive a text to your phone with this verse set to music by texting the word “CHBCVERSE” to the number (302) 207-SONG (7664).

A Moment in Church History
On August 5, 1604, John Eliot is baptized. Eliot migrated to America in 1631, became a missionary to natives in the Massachusetts Bay area, established a school, printed the first book in the Americas, and translated the Bible into the Algonquin language. Learn more about John Eliot here: Biography of John Eliot. And learn more about what happened on this date in church history by following this link: Today in Church History.

Prayer
CHBC pray for clarity in the teaching and preaching of the Bible. When it is carefully explained, we receive a great gift by its understanding.
Psalm 119:130
“The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.”
