God’s Vision for CHBC: 3 Piers, 3 Pillars, and 3 Purposes

The Ultimate Goal of CHBC

The mission statement for CHBC says that Capitol Hill Baptist Church exists for the glory of God to accomplish three purposes in the life of all believers. We exist to equip believers to know God and to know His Word, to exalt Christ personally and publicly, and to extend the gospel to the ends of the world. The ultimate goal of CHBC is to develop fully devoted followers of Christ who will live by the Great Commandment (Matt. 22:36-40) and who fulfill the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20).

God’s Vision for CHBC: 3 Piers, 3 Pillars, and 3 Purposes

Purpose 3: Extend the Gospel

The Great Commission was delivered to the apostles, and those gathered with Jesus at His ascension. Matthew 28:18-20 says, “And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” The question is, did this relate to the apostles only, to every Christian individually, or to the church global and local?

The answer is yes to all of the above. The apostles were being specifically commissioned to bring the gospel to the nations. Every believer has a responsible to share the gospel and make disciples as they go. The church global and the local church has a mandate to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth. At CHBC we see global evangelization as one of our three key reasons for existence. We believe that it is our purpose to extend the gospel to our neighbors and the nations.

We fulfill this purpose by giving to the Cooperative Program of the SBC out of our regular tithes, through an annual special offering called the Lottie Moon Offering, through our ongoing World Missions Offering, and through supporting teams of people from our church who go on mission trips throughout the year. We also have evangelistic outreach events throughout the year for our own community through things like VBS, Youth Camp, and Love Your Neighbor events.
