CHBC Members Meeting
Capitol Hill Baptist Church is a Baptist congregational church. Which means our members meet on a regular basis to review our financial status, elect leaders, call pastors, and make other important directional decisions. We appoint faithful committee members, and staff to make many decisions, or bring needed recommendations to the church body during quarterly members meetings. Our next members meeting is this Sunday night at 5 PM.

We will again make the meeting available via Zoom for those unable to attend in person due to the COVID-19 heath crisis. You will be able to observe and participate in the meeting. You will receive an email with the Zoom link, and attachments for the needed documents. If you do not receive that email, please contact the church office by noon Friday. Thank you to all of our committees and staff who have worked to prepare us for our meeting.

Retirement Reception
Pastor Isaias is retiring. His last Sunday is this week, October 25, 2020. He has served with us for almost 6 years as the Associate Pastor of Hispanic Ministries. We will have a reception in the Activity Center Sunday evening following the Members Meeting. Light snacks will be available. You may want to bring a card or gift to express your appreciation.

Greet and Treat
This is our 15th year to do Greet and Treat. Greet and Treat is a way for CHBC to use the night of Halloween to be in our neighborhoods sharing the good news of Christ. We have put together outreach bags for your family to take around with you. These bags will be available on Sunday morning following the AM Worship Service. While many children in our neighborhoods are going to Trick or Treat, we will be going to homes ready to answer the door so we can Greet and Treat. Many of us will also be ready to receive children and families as they walk the neighborhood. Pastor Mark’s home will serve popcorn, hot chocolate, and have games to play as we hand out information about the gospel and the church. How will you Greet and Treat this year?

CHBC Re-Gathering – October 25, 2020
The church is not a building people meet together in, but a people who gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord.

The church is a people who gather to worship Jesus. If Jesus were just a man this would be a ludicrous action. Why should people gather to worship a man who lived 2,000 years ago? They probably would not, and I can tell you for certain that they should not. But Jesus is not just a man. He is the God-man. He is the Son of God. He is the Lord. As such, we should worship Him. For He alone is worthy of all glory. CHBC worship Christ personally and corporately this Lord’s Day!

If you gather with us in person know that we are physically distancing and sanitizing. You are more than welcome to wear a face covering in order to protect others. Please RSVP, especially if you will be using ETC (Extended Teaching Care for 3 years and younger). The RSVP helps us be prepared for overflow seating, for children in ETC, and for seating in the Worship Center. Thank you for understanding the need to physically distance and to RSVP. Click the link to go the CHBC Re-Gathering RSVP page on the website: CHBC Re-Gathering RSVP.  If you forget to RSVP or you meet someone you want to invite to worship with us, please still attend and do not worry about telling them how to RSVP. We will accommodate everyone either in the main Worship Center or in our overflow rooms.

Sunday School
CHBC is currently Re-Grouping into Sunday School. Each class begins at 9 AM. You can read the Re-Grouping Plan for Sunday School here: CHBC Sunday School Re-Grouping. There are some changes to where groups meet, so please read the plan carefully. We will continue to send you links to use on your own at your home as well. You can find those below:

Quotes from Church History
Martin Luther: “Faith is a living, daring confidence in God's grace, so sure and certain that a man could stake his life on it a thousand times.” – Martin Luther (1483-1546, German Minister and father of the Protestant Reformation)

Prayer
Prayer is an act of faith. We pray because we are dependent on and believing in God’s grace. We ask God for things that we have confidence in His desire to give them. We pray because we know God is good and all-powerful. We pray because we know God is love. We ask in faith in this God.

Hebrews 11:1-3

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old gained approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.”

CHBC Re-Gathering – October 18, 2020

The church is not a building people meet together in, but a people who gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord.

The church of Jesus Christ is the family of God. This family exists in love, humility, and gentleness toward one another. We will differ at times on issues and opinions. But our union in Christ supersedes our differences, and we show that when we live toward one in gentleness, when we prefer the other person in humility, and when we act in loving forgiveness.

If you gather with us in person know that we are physically distancing and sanitizing. You are more than welcome to wear a face covering in order to protect others. Quotes from Church History
Martin Luther: “I am more afraid of my own heart than of the pope and all his cardinals. I have within me the great pope, Self.” – Martin Luther (1483-1546, German Minister and father of the Protestant Reformation)

Prayer
Prayer is a way to remind yourself that you are not God. Ask for your life to be transformed into obedience and dependence upon the true God.

Romans 12:2

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
