What is God’s Vision for CHBC?
Capitol Hill Baptist Church is founded on three Piers (The Lordship of Christ, the Centrality of the Scriptures, and the Glory of God). We function based upon three Pillars (Biblically-Modeled, Mission-Minded, and Multi-Cultural). We perform three Purposes (Equipping Believers, Exalting Christ, and Extending the Gospel). In our last newsletter we shared God’s Missio Dei, to make disciples. In this newsletter we want you to consider what it means to be a church that is convicted to be Multi-Cultural.

Revelation 5:9 says, “And they sang a new song, saying, ‘Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.’” God’s mission is a global mission. And the local church in the New Testament began to reflect that mission. Young and old, slave and free, Jew and Gentile, wealthy and poor all made up the local church. The gathered church on earth began to reflect the heavenly vision of the eternal church.

CHBC is committed to pursuing that same vision. People from different ethnicities, languages, socio-economic backgrounds, different educational levels, and different ages all worshipping as one church, with one shared vision is the goal of CHBC.

Memorial Day Picnic – May 28 at 5 PM
Every Sunday night before Memorial Day CHBC gathers for a time of fellowship. At each of these picnics grilled hamburgers and hotdogs as well as drinks are provided. The church family is asked to bring sides and desserts to share. You can eat inside or outside. Bring a lawn chair, frisbee, ball, or yard game. Plan on participating in corn hole or sand volleyball. Stay and enjoy the fellowship.

CHBC Resource Center
Visit the CHBC Resource Center outside the Worship Center. There are three featured books: The ESV Study Bible; Systematic Theology, by Wayne Grudem; and The Valley of Vision, ed. by Arthur Bennett. Our featured books are for sale and are books that we believe every Christian home should own. There are also several free resources.

Scripture of the Month - May
Titus 2:6-8, “Likewise urge the young men to be sensible; in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.”

During 2023 CHBC will be saying aloud verses from the book of Titus 2. CHBC quotes Scripture aloud during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. The goal of 2023 is for you to be able to quote the entire second chapter of the Epistle to Titus. Pick up your Scripture Memory card packs at the Resource Center outside the middle doors of the Worship Center.

Last week we shared with you what it means to be Biblically-Modeled, as we think about our three Pillars. What does it mean to be Mission-Minded?

“Go therefore and make disciples,” from Matthew 28:19, is what is known as the Missio Dei. This is the task given by God for His people to the world. We must be diligent to keep the mission before us. There are many activities in which a church can be involved, but unless it aids in disciple-making, it should be seen as a distraction from our primary purpose.

Combined Worship and Lord’s Supper- May 28 in the 10:15 AM Service

CHBC is 1 Church in 2 Languages. Therefore, once every other month we come together in combined worship. We will celebrate the Lord’s Supper on that Sunday. Each time we gather as a combined congregation it reminds us of the Kingdom diversity that exists in God’s eternal church and renews our commitment to be a local outpost striving after heavenly reflection.
