What is God’s Vision for CHBC?

Capitol Hill Baptist Church is founded on three Piers (The Lordship of Christ, the Centrality of the Scriptures, and the Glory of God). We function based upon three Pillars (Biblically-Modeled, Mission-Minded, and Multi-Cultural). We perform three Purposes (Equipping Believers, Exalting Christ, and Extending the Gospel). The focus of this and the next two newsletters is to discuss our three Pillars. These pillars are convictions we ask every member to hold corporately together. The first of these is that the church remain Biblically-Modeled.  Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away” (Mark 13:31). God’s Word is eternal. He has revealed His will to us in the inerrant and infallible Bible. He has shown us by precept and principle how a church is to be founded and how it is to function. To stray from His guidance is dangerous, foolish, and unnecessary. CHBC chooses to hold fast to the word of God as our guide of faith and conduct in all matters, especially as it relates to the worship, discipleship, fellowship, ministry, and evangelism of the church.

Graduate Recognition Sunday – May 7 at 10:15 AM

Every year we attempt to honor our High School Seniors and their families during one morning worship service in the month of May. As a church body we celebrate together what this milestone moment means in the lives of these families. The student and parents are going through a significant moment of change. Be present to show your love and support for these families and to pledge your support to pray for these graduates as they take the next step in the journey to adulthood.

Members’ Meeting – May 7 at 6 PM

Following the evening Worship Gathering we will have our First Quarter Members’ Meeting. Each quarter the church gathers to review financials and to consider together action that is necessary for church approval. In this meeting we will consider matters related to the acceptance of new members and elect Messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention.

CHBC Resource Center

Visit the CHBC Resource Center outside the Worship Center. There are three featured books: The ESV Study Bible; Systematic Theology, by Wayne Grudem; and The Valley of Vision, ed. by Arthur Bennett. Our featured books are for sale and are books that we believe every Christian home should own. There are also several free resources.

Scripture of the Month - May

Titus 2:6-8, “Likewise urge the young men to be sensible; in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.”

During 2023 CHBC will be saying aloud verses from the book of Titus 2. CHBC quotes Scripture aloud during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. The goal of 2023 is for you to be able to quote the entire second chapter of the Epistle to Titus. Pick up your Scripture Memory card packs at the Resource Center outside the middle doors of the Worship Center.

What is God’s Vision for CHBC?
Our world has been tricked by the enemy to either hold no significant convictions, or to embrace convictions on the wrong issues. That is how Christians are distinct in our culture. Rather than fear that distinction we should embrace it. God has made humans to have convictions. The lack of conviction we see in our world, or the misplaced conviction we see so popular on social media and the major news outlets should not cause Christians to be soft on their convictions, but to fully embrace our Christian convictions and be clear and kind in expressing what we believe. All Christian doctrine should be a part of our convictions. As a church we have determined there are three overarching principles for which we ought to hold convictions: The Church Must Be Biblically-Modeled; The Church Must Be Mission-Minded; and the Church Must Be Multicultural. Future newsletters will briefly address each of these convictions.

Scripture of the Month - April
Titus 2:4-5, “so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.”
