What is God’s Vision for CHBC?
Capitol Hill Baptist Church is founded on three Piers (The Lordship of Christ, the Centrality of the Scriptures, and the Glory of God). We function based upon three Pillars (Biblically-Modeled, Mission-Minded, and Multi-Cultural). We perform three Purposes (Equipping Believers, Exalting Christ, and Extending the Gospel). The focus of this and the next two newsletters is to discuss our three Pillars. These pillars are convictions we ask every member to hold corporately together. The first of these is that the church remain Biblically-Modeled. “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away” (Mark 13:31). God’s Word is eternal. He has revealed His will to us in the inerrant and infallible Bible. He has shown us by precept and principle how a church is to be founded and how it is to function. To stray from His guidance is dangerous, foolish, and unnecessary. CHBC chooses to hold fast to the word of God as our guide of faith and conduct in all matters, especially as it relates to the worship, discipleship, fellowship, ministry, and evangelism of the church.
Graduate Recognition Sunday – May 7 at 10:15 AM
Every year we attempt to honor our High School Seniors and their families during one morning worship service in the month of May. As a church body we celebrate together what this milestone moment means in the lives of these families. The student and parents are going through a significant moment of change. Be present to show your love and support for these families and to pledge your support to pray for these graduates as they take the next step in the journey to adulthood.
Members’ Meeting – May 7 at 6 PM
Following the evening Worship Gathering we will have our First Quarter Members’ Meeting. Each quarter the church gathers to review financials and to consider together action that is necessary for church approval. In this meeting we will consider matters related to the acceptance of new members and elect Messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention.
Vacation Bible School – June 5-12
CHBC loves VBS! Each year close to 100 volunteers work to provide a week of outreach and discipleship for children from Kindergarten to 6th Grade. VBS begins at 9 AM and ends at Noon each day. You can register to serve or enroll your child online at VBS Sign Up.
CHBC Resource Center
Visit the CHBC Resource Center outside the Worship Center. There are three featured books: The ESV Study Bible; Systematic Theology, by Wayne Grudem; and The Valley of Vision, ed. by Arthur Bennett. Our featured books are for sale and are books that we believe every Christian home should own. There are also several free resources.
Scripture of the Month - May
Titus 2:6-8, “Likewise urge the young men to be sensible; 7 in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, 8 sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.”
During 2023 CHBC will be saying aloud verses from the book of Titus 2. CHBC quotes Scripture aloud during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. The goal of 2023 is for you to be able to quote the entire second chapter of the Epistle to Titus. Pick up your Scripture Memory card packs at the Resource Center outside the middle doors of the Worship Center.
