CHBC Connect for December 2, 2022

The Mission of CHBC – 3 Piers, 3 Pillars, and 3 Purposes

CHBC exists for the glory of God to accomplish three purposes: To equip believers to know God’s Word, to exalt Christ privately and publicly, and to extend the gospel to their neighbors and the nations.

Pray for the Search Committee - Associate Pastor for Worship Ministries

Continue praying as our search committee collects resumes, reviews candidates, and seeks the Lord on behalf of the church. The work of calling a pastor deserves great attention, serious commitment to prayer, and a sensitivity to the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

Project Angel Tree

Come Saturday morning to CHBC from 10-11:30 to minister to the families receiving the gifts through Project Angel Tree. This ministry connects Christ to men and women who have been incarcerated in our local jail or prison system. It then connects them to their children living in the home of a caregiver. Finally, it connects the church to this family trying to walk out of brokenness toward reconciliation. This is a powerful ministry opportunity to redeem shattered lives.

Celebrate Christmas with CHBC

  • December 4 – 5 PM – Christmas Traditions Service and Hot Chocolate
  • December 10 – 10:30 AM – Lamplighters (65+ ministry) trip to Pollard Theater for “Territorial Christmas Carol”
  • 11 – 5 PM - Worship Ministry’s Christmas Night of Worship
  • 18 – 5 PM – PoWeR for Kids Christmas Musical
  • 24 – 5 PM – Christmas Eve Candlelight Service
  • 25 – 10:15 AM – Family Christmas Worship

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering/World Missions Offering

Jesus Christ’s birth is the reason the church celebrates Christmas. He is the greatest gift because it is through Him alone that sinners are saved. This news needs to reach the end of the earth. Men and women of God have felt the call to full-time missionary service since the sending of the first disciples. When you give to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, or to World Missions Offering, you are putting dollar directly in the hands of missionaries who serve through the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Some of the most dedicated followers of Christ serve our mission agency. Support their work by giving beyond your tithe to Lottie Moon or the World Missions Offering this month.

Scripture of the Month - October

John 1:1-3, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.” Each week CHBC says aloud a passage of Scripture during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. Receive a text to your phone with this verse set to music by texting the word “CHBCVERSE” to the number (302) 207-SONG (7664).

The Mission of CHBC – 3 Piers, 3 Pillars, and 3 Purposes
The purpose of Capitol Hill Baptist Church is to Equip Believers, Exalt Christ, and Extend the Gospel. Followers of Christ are to be discipled in all the teachings of Christ, which is revealed to us in God’s inspired Word. CHBC is committed to proclaiming the whole counsel of God’s Word. We want to make all of the Bible known to all of our members. That is to be done in formal and informal ways. Providing tools for daily Bible reading. Helping people find small groups for Bible study like Sunday school, AWANA, midweek worship and Bible studies for students and adults, and in home small groups. Invest your time with CHBC and be equipped to know God’s Word.

Project Angel Tree
Sign up to serve in the Project Angel Tree party. Caregivers and children will be coming to CHBC on Saturday morning, December 3. Sign up to help with the party and distribute these gifts at the Welcome Center, or on line: CHBC.

Serve OBHC – Dec. 1
Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children is a ministry to moms and children who are coming out of crisis. As a ministry of Oklahoma Baptists we support this ministry through the Cooperative Program. These moms are given a place to live, counseling, training on life skills, and the chance to start over all in a gospel-centered environment. Skilled and trained administrators work with each mom to learn how to care for themselves and their children. On November 17 and December 1 the moms are given the chance to shop for Christmas in the OBHC Boutique. They just need help with childcare so the moms can shop. If you would be willing to assist on one of those nights please contact Susan DeMoss, Terry Davidson, or Tabitha Moon. If you do not know any of these people, contact the church office at 405-799-9799.

Scripture of the Month - October
2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” Each week CHBC says aloud a passage of Scripture during our morning worship gathering.
