The Mission of CHBC – The Centrality of the Scripture

The church is not a building people meet together in, but a people who gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord. The people of God are founded by the Scripture. God established the world by His speaking. He revealed Himself to the patriarchs of the OT by His voice. He spoke to His people through the prophets. He sent Jesus, the Living Word. He speaks to the church today through the Scriptures. We cannot drift from the revelation of God, which is captured in the inspired Word of God. This is a critical pier upon which CHBC firmly stands.

Platform Remodel

When you are worshipping on Sunday you will notice that the platform is still undergoing an expansion. This is to allow more space for the choir, orchestra, and band to all be on the platform, as well as provide a more flexible area for other worship events. While most of the carpentry work is complete, we are waiting for the final work of the electrician, AVL installments, delivery of choir risers, and installation of the carpet throughout the worship center. Thank you for your patience as await the completion of this project.

CrossTimbers – Children’s Camp

This children’s camp is for children who will have completed the 3rd-6th grade at the end of this school term. The dates are June 20-23. There are only a few beds left. Please contact Mrs. Cheryl, Director for Preschool and Children’s Ministries at , or visit the website at: CrossTimbers Registration.

Good Friday 6-8 PM – Sabina Movie & Torch Lighters for Children

We believe every Sunday is Resurrection Sunday, but we also think it is appropriate to have a date on the calendar that draws special attention to the most significant event in human history – the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We will mark our celebration of the resurrection two ways. First will be Good Friday at 6 PM. We will be showing the movie Sabina. This movie is about Sabina Wurmbrand, the wife of Voice of the Martyrs founder, Richard Wurmbrand. It will tell you more of their story as the Nazi came to power in Europe. Learn more about this movie at The Sabina Movie website. We will also offer our elementary age children a different movie option from the VOM animated films for parents who are not ready to show your children the Sabina film. There is childcare for children 3 years old and younger, but you must register for this childcare. Visit our website to register for childcare.

VBS Leader Training – Come and Go Event

If you are a member of CHBC and would like to serve in VBS, please make plans for the VBS Leader Training on April 24. This will be a come and go style training opportunity to get you ready for another great VBS. The come and go times are 4-5 PM on April 24 and 6-7 PM on April 24. VBS is June 6-10.

Resurrection Day Worship – April 17

We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus every Sunday, but we think it is appropriate to have a date on the calendar to celebrate the resurrection in a special way. We will celebrate resurrection Sunday with a pancake breakfast from 9-10 AM in the Activity Center, and with worship at 10:15 AM in the Worship Center for our English-speaking service and Solomon’s Porch for our Spanish-speaking service.

Scripture of the Month

Lamentations 3:22-23, “The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Each week CHBC says aloud a passage of Scripture during our morning worship gathering. This is done for two reasons. First, we are commanded in Scripture to encourage one another with the Word of God. Second, we want to emphasize the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. Receive a text to your phone with this verse set to music by texting the word “CHBCVERSE” to the number (302) 207-SONG (7664).

A Moment in Church History

On April 14, 1950, Mitsuo Fuchida came to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Fuchida had been the lead pilot on the attack at Pearl Harbor. Read about his conversion at the link below. Learn more about what happened on this date in church history by following this link: Today in Church History.

Prayer

Take a moment to praise God for having the nature of forgiveness. An attribute that He shares with us (a communicable attribute of God). Thank Him for specifically forgiving you through Christ. Joining you in the crucifixion of Jesus and allowing Christ to live in you through the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 15:1-4

“Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,”

The Vision of CHBC – Extending the Gospel

The church is not a building people meet together in, but a people who gather to worship Jesus Christ as Lord. The saving confession of the church is that Jesus is Lord. Romans 10:9-10 speaks of confessing Christ as Lord as the mark of a person who truly believes. Jesus said the church would be built upon Peter’s confession that Jesus was the Christ the Son of God. CHBC has three piers or foundations upon which we believe the church must stand upon. The first of those piers is the Lordship of Christ. Ephesians says He is head of the church. The pastors are simply undershepherds to the Great Shepherd. He mediates His loving rule over the church through the Word of God and those called to teach that Word. We gather weekly to publicly and corporately worship Jesus Christ as Lord.

Work Day & Neighborhood Canvassing– April 9 from 8 AM – Noon

All are invited to come and help as we do some inside and outside work at the church. There will be tasks for people of all ages. This is a great way to bring your children and teach them about serving the church. A light breakfast will be served as you arrive. Tasks will be prepared and assigned upon your arrival. We will also be canvassing the neighborhoods to invite our neighbors to worship with us on Resurrection Sunday.

A Moment in Church History

On April 7, 1898, “Giuseppi Verdi’s Te Deum (which means, “We praise Thee, O God”) is first performed, in a concert by the Paris Opera, with two other religious compositions from his Quattro pezzi sacri. Allegedly he will ask to be buried with this piece under his head.” Learn more about what happened on this date in church history by following this link: Today in Church History.

Galatians 2:20

“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”
